RishtanganPrivacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
Rishtangan is a matrimony app run by Vivek Chaudhary (“we”). This policy explains what we collect when you use the app, why, who can see it, and how you can see, change or delete it. It is written to follow India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Rules.
What we collect
- Your phone number, to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Your profile: name, gender, date of birth, height, marital status, city and state, religion, community, mother tongue, education, profession, income range, family details, hobbies and “About me”, and who created the profile (you or a family member). Some of these, like religion and community, are sensitive; you choose what to fill in beyond the required basics.
- Photos you add, and your photo privacy setting.
- Partner preferences, used only to suggest matches. Other members never see them.
- ID verification (optional): a photo of an ID document and a selfie, to give you the verified badge.
- Your activity: interests sent and received, shortlist, profiles you viewed and who viewed yours, chats, blocks and reports.
- Purchases: your Premium plan, its status and expiry date. Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your card or bank details.
- Device details: a notification token so we can send you notifications, and, when the app crashes, a crash report (device model, Android version, app version, the screen you were on and your member ID). Crash reports do not include your IP address, messages or screenshots.
How we use it
- To run the app: sign-in, your profile, match suggestions, search, interests, chat and notifications.
- To keep members safe: moderators review new profiles, photos and profile edits, check ID verification, and look into reports. Phone numbers, email addresses and links are not allowed in profile text.
- To provide Premium features you pay for.
- To find and fix crashes and errors.
We do not sell your data and do not show advertising.
Who can see your information
- Other members who have signed in with a verified phone number can see your profile once a moderator approves it, unless you hide your profile or block them. Your photos are shown according to your photo privacy setting: to all members, or only to people whose interest you accepted.
- Your phone number is never shown on your profile. It is shown only to a connected Premium member, and only if you turn on “Share my phone number”.
- Chats can be read only by the two people in the conversation. Our moderators cannot read them.
- Our moderators can see profiles, photos, reports, ID verification images and the phone number behind an account, to review and keep the app safe.
- Service providers that run parts of the app for us, only for that purpose:
- Supabase: our database, file storage and sign-in (servers in India).
- An SMS provider, to send your one-time sign-in code.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and the Expo push service, to deliver notifications. A notification about a new message includes the sender’s first name and the start of the message.
- Google Play and RevenueCat, to process and track Premium subscriptions.
- Sentry, to collect crash reports.
Some of these providers may process data outside India, under their own security and privacy commitments. - Authorities, when the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- Your data stays while your account exists.
- When you delete your account, your login, profile, photos, preferences, interests, shortlist, profile views, chats and notification settings are deleted straight away.
- When either person removes a connection, the chat between them, including all messages, is deleted for both.
- ID verification images are deleted as soon as a moderator has checked them; only the result is kept.
- Reports you made, or that were made about you, are kept for up to 1 year to keep members safe, with the reported name and reason but without a link to your account.
- If an account is suspended, its phone number is kept so it can’t be used to sign up again, until the suspension is lifted.
- Purchase records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Your rights
- See and correct your information: everything you entered is in the app under My Profile, where you can edit it. Gender and date of birth can be corrected by contacting us.
- Hide your profile at any time (My Profile → Privacy & account).
- Delete your account in the app (My Profile → Privacy & account → Delete my account), or from this website if you no longer have the app.
- Withdraw consent by deleting your account, and ask questions or complain to our grievance officer below. You may also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Age
Rishtangan is only for adults of legal marriageable age in India: at least 18 for women and 21 for men. We don’t knowingly allow anyone younger; report any profile you believe is underage.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Access rules in our database let members see only what this policy describes, and photos and ID images are kept in private storage. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and tell you in the app before important changes take effect.
